Season in Preview: Game seven

Week seven has the Bulldogs returning home for the first of three straight games in Fresno as they take on the Spartans of San Jose State. The Bulldogs will be looking for revenge after losing to the Spartans 24-14 to close out the 2006 season.

The job done by Dick Tomey in 2006 was overshadowed in the WAC by the Boise State run but everybody in the conference is full aware of the turnaround, especially Fresno State who saw it first hand. In the game last season the Bulldogs saw the emergence of San Jose State quarterback Adam Tafralis first hand as he threw for three touchdowns while Fresno State quarterback Tom Brandstater easily had his worst game of the season, throwing four interceptions.

The offense for the Spartans in 2007 should be similar to the one fans saw in 2006 when they balanced the run and pass. Tafralis returns with big expectations in 2007 and has a solid unit around and a few JUCO transfers coming in with high praise. Yonus Davis and James Callier both return at running back while Jeff Clark returns at tight end. The wide receiver unit is a bit untested with Jalal Beauchman and Michael Hooper returning but they will both be pushed by JUCO transfer David Richmond from Santa Ana College. Richmond turned down other offers from Oregon, BYU and Iowa State to play for the Spartans and San Jose State is hoping he can gel with his new environment quickly.
