PRACTICE NOTEBOOK: Devils have improved second day

Day two of fall camp was exactly what Ted Roof hoped it would be - better. Though he had no major complaints following the first day of practice, his goal is to improve each day and the Blue Devils' head man was pleased with what he saw.

"I thought today was better," Roof said following practice. "I thought there was better attention to detail. Doing all the things we do out here is different than lifting weights and running on the track. We're just getting back into doing it and refining the techniques. So, it was better today than it was yesterday."

LINEBACKERS SEEING MORE REPS: After the unfortunate situation involving Michael Tauiliili, Roof and his staff have been stuck with the task of finding a replacement for the talented linebacker.

Thus far, Roof has seen a few players step up over the course of the first two days of practice.

"Tim Ball and Alfred Williams got more reps today," Roof said. "We moved Vinny Rey from one linebacker to another, but those things are interchangeable anyway. The more flexibility you have and the more guys learn and understand concepts the more jobs they can do.

"All of those guys had a good day. And I tell you, I liked the way Damian Thornton strung it out. He's going to be a good player. [Justin] Wilkerson did some good things as well.
