ASI PM Insider: Freshmen WRs come out of the gates

When they signed speedy athletes Bert Reed, Brandon Paul and Taiwan Easterling in February, Florida State's coaches said they hoped that one or more of the freshmen would be able to jump start the Seminoles' special teams.

FSU struggled mightily with kick returns last season, so it made sense that the trio could help right away in that department.

But few Florida State fans could have expected that the youngsters and fellow classmate Cameron Wade would be able to gain significant playing time in FSU's base offense this fall. After all, the Seminoles' preseason receiver depth chart features two seniors, two juniors and three sophomores.

Don't count the freshmen out just yet.

After watching his veterans struggle during Tuesday's morning practice and then seeing the newcomers shine in the afternoon, receivers coach Lawrence Dawsey said that every position is up for grabs.
