QBs: No separation seen on Saturday

The highly anticipated quarterback battle at the University of Oklahoma went public on Saturday as Joey Halzle, Sam Bradford and Keith Nichol took center stage in front of an estimated 7,000 Sooner fans at Oklahoma Memorial Stadium for the first major scrimmage of the fall.

While offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson was hoping for some type of separation between his three quarterback candidates, there may be more confusion than clarity following a two-hour scrimmage which was highlighted by a stout defense rather than playmaking quarterbacks.

"I think if you asked each (coach) you'd get a subtle degree of separation and difference," said Wilson following the scrimmage.

The hope for Wilson and Bob Stoops was that the crowd and the atmosphere of a public scrimmage would show them which quarterback could handle a gameday situation.

But after true freshman Keith Nichol led the Sooners on one of the few substantial drives on the day, the starting quarterback picture is probably even more murky than before Saturday.
