Notebook: Injured players back; AU scrimmages
Auburn held an 80-play "scrimmage" Wednesday evening but with no tackling and much of the focus on substitutions; it turned out it to be more of a dress rehearsal for the Tigers' opener against Kansas State on Sept. 1.
"It was good to see the speed of the game," said AU head coach Tommy Tuberville. "Some of these young guys don't realize how quick the turnaround of the offense goes to defense, how quick you've got to get in substitutions, how you've got to be ready for special teams."
Tuberville said he was pleased with the kicking game and the temp of the offense Wednesday. He also commented on how well the receivers caught the ball and the play of all three quarterbacks - Brandon Cox, Blake Field and Kodi Burns.
"We put the quarterbacks under the gun today and moved the ball around," said Tuberville. "We made them the throw and gave the defense the upper hand. I thought Brandon and Blake did a real good job, along with Kodi Burns."
Tuberville also liked what he saw from the kicking game Wednesday.
