Friday practice report

Friday afternoon the Duke Blue Devils put in a two hour practice that likely marked their last midday work-out of the season, as they will move it to an earlier 9 a.m. time. Temperatures again reached the mid-90s during the session, but the team worked through the heat and put together a productive day.

The energy level across the board was extremely high throughout the entire two hours, resulting in some very positive things happening on the field.

The first eye-catcher of the day was the performance of the kicking game. Joe Surgan and Greg Meyers put on a show during the field goal period as they connected on a combined seven-for-eight attempts with the long being in the 40-yard range.

Surgan also appeared to have his A-game during kickoffs as he was successful in each situational kicking drill. His full kickoffs could have used just a bit more length to them but for the most part the coaching staff seemed to be pleased with his performance. Surgan also saw time during punting drills and he did a great job with the hang time of his kicks.
