EP soars over Jags

The season opener was a rough night for Rivals100 junior quarterback Moses Alipate of Bloomington Jefferson. The talent of Alipate was evident it's just that his Jaguars had to face Willie Mobley, Gopher commit Ryan Grant, and the defending state champion Eden Prairie Eagles. EP finished with a 49-10 victory but Alipate could leave with his head high as he competed at a high level.

From the opening drive of the game it was clear that Bloomington Jefferson was in for a tough night. The Jaguars tried to run the ball at Mobley on the first play but that was clearly not going to work as the ninth rated strongside defensive end prospect in the nation stopped the play dead in its tracks. Willie held off the blocker and stopped things on the line. For that play he was lined up at tackle and on the next series while at end, the Jefferson run was to go outside Willie but he got under the tackle and pushed the lineman backwards forcing the runner back inside where Willie's teammates were waiting.

From this point on the only running Jefferson really did the rest of the game was draws and scrambles by Alipate. Mobley finished the game with two sacks and maybe a half of another. He also had a few solo tackles but after the first run of the game little was brought back his way and Mobley was often double teamed. Willie also was brought in on the game on offense in short yardage and goal line situations playing somewhat of an H-Back role and leading some plays with his blocking or he was used as a decoy for counters.
