Bernard carries Beavers in Utah win

St. Bernard.

That's what you might as well call Oregon State running back Yvenson Bernard.

After all, it was he who stepped up and answered the call when the OSU offense was sputtering and in desperate need of a boost against Utah.

"I just knew we had to make plays," Bernard said. "We've got playmakers all around the field and Sean (Canfield) and Lyle (Moevao) are great quarterbacks."

And Bernard ended up being the Beavers' playmaker on Thursday night as both QBs struggled to move the ball. His 9-yard touchdown run with 4:58 left in the second quarter tied the game at 7.

And fittingly, he put the game away for the Beavers with a 10-yard scamper at 11:34 mark in the fourth. He finished with a 165 yards on 29 carries and led the team with four receptions.

"I thought he was outstanding," said OSU coach Mike Riley. "Yve is in great, great shape and is quicker than ever. He just really played with confidence and made some big time runs."
