Everett on Bennett's mind

When Texas A&M faces the University of Louisiana at Monroe Saturday at 6 p.m. at Kyle Field junior tight end Martellus Bennett will be stepping onto the field without at least one pregame ritual. Bennett is used to talking with Buffalo Bills tight end Kevin Everett before each game.

Everett sustained a life-threatening spinal cord injury when he hit Denver Bronco Domenik Hixon during a second half kickoff. He was admitted to Millard Fillmore Gates Hospital in Buffalo.

The injury to Everett has caused Bennett to dedicate his season to his close friend and his family.

"It just shows you that there are a lot of bigger things in life since football and hopefully he's going to be able to walk again," Bennett said. "I might try to change my number to No. 85. I have to talk to Fran, but I want to change to No. 85 for the rest of the season."

Despite the fact that Everett is from Port Arthur and Bennett is from nearby Houston, the two didn't actually meet until their paths crossed on the East coast while Everett was playing at Miami and Bennett was on a recruiting visit to check out the Hurricanes.
