Best of the Rest: Centers

Looking for a center in the class of 2008? The well is nearly dry as the signing period approaches.

Only three remain in the top 20 national ranking for the position, and one of the prospects will announce his decision today.

Best of the Rest: Centers

John Riek, 7-2, 240, Winchendon (Mass.)

Rank: No. 5 player in the nation, No. 2 center

Who is in the mix?: UConn, Georgetown, others

When will he sign?: It might not matter. It has long been speculated that Riek will be an early entry to the NBA after his prep year at Winchendon. His age and class status have been subjects of speculation for quite some time. If he signs with a college, it will happen in the late period.

Are academics a concern?: Yes.

Tyler Zeller, 6-11, 215, Washington (Ind.)

Rank: No. 22 player in the nation, No. 5 center

Who is in the mix?: Indiana, North Carolina, Notre Dame and Purdue

When will he sign?: With all of his visits behind him now, Zeller is on the clock. But what time will the bell tick? Zeller doesn't know that answer. He hinted recently that he might take return visits to the schools on his short list. If that happens, say hello to the spring.

Are academics a concern?: No.

J'Mison Morgan, 6-10, 275, South Oak Cliff (Texas)

Rank: No. 23 player in the nation, No. 6 center

Who is in the mix?: Alabama, Cincinnati, Kansas, LSU and UCLA.

When will he sign?: Morgan will announce his decision today at a press conference at his school. Where will he go? That is one of the biggest mysteries in this year's class. The secret will be revealed later today. As another Dallas area star says, "Get your popcorn ready."

Are academics a concern?: No.

Top five outside the Rivals150: Krystopher Faber (Ribet Academy, Calif.); Aziz N'Diyae (Lake Forest Academy, Ill.); Edgar Garibay (Compton, Calif.); Jarrod Jones (Michigan City, Ind.); Garrett Stutz (North Kansas City, Mo.)
