Quick Hits: Pitt vs. RU
# Pitt is 4-5 on the season, and the Panthers travel to Piscataway, New Jersey, on Saturday to take on the Scarlet Knights of Rutgers (6-4). The game is scheduled for a Noon start and will be televised locally by WTAE-TV. Dave Simms will handle the play-by-play and former Pitt quarterback John Congemiwill do the color.
# Last fall Rutgers beat Pitt 20-10 at Heinz Field. The Panthers lead the all-time series 19-5 but have lost the last two times these teams have met.
# Rutgers needs one more win to be bowl eligible for the third year in a row but will probably have to beat Pitt Saturday and win on the road at Louisville the following week to get the seven wins they will need for a bowl. Pitt will need to win three in a row to make the bowl picture this year.
# In their meeting last fall Rutgers running back Ray Rice gained 225 yards on 39 carries against Pitt. So far this season Rice has gained 1,500 yards on the ground and ranks No. 1 in the Big East averaging 150.0 yards per game. Rice is Rutgers all-time leading rusher with 4,114 career rushing yards.
