Wake Earns High Marks
Wake Forest was on the winning side of a game with huge bowl game implications this past Saturday in Winston-Salem. The matchup pitted two teams moving in opposite directions the last few games, but Wake Forest was able to break that momentum and pick up a win. Great performances from Wake's defensive stars, [Alphonso Smith and Aaron Curry, as well as another solid outing by Riley Skinner helped the Demon Deacons beat North Carolina State 38-18 on Saturday. Deacons Illustrated passes out grades for the Deacs:
Another game, another solid performance by Riley Skinner. The sophomore quarterback completed 20 out of 29 passes for 208 yards and a pair of touchdowns. So just how accurate has Skinner been this year? His 69% completion percentage on Saturday actually brought his season completion percentage down to 72.37%, which is the second highest in the country. Skinner showed a cool demeanor, even despite constant pressure from the NC State front four, and broke his two-game interception streak. Wake Forest will need another solid performance from Skinner next week against Vanderbilt.
Running Backs: B
There is no doubting the talent and abilities of Wake Forest's running back tandem of Josh Adams and Micah Andrews. However, it would also be hard to doubt that the Demon Deacons might not be so lucky next game if the two runners continue to put the ball on the ground. Josh Adams failed to reach 100 yards rushing for the fourth straight week, but he did find the end zone for the 8th time this season on the ground. He finished the day with 84 yards rushing on 24 carries.
