Walker's father goes on the record about his son
Recruiting is heating up and many of the nation's top prospects have been forced to stay away from the phone as the media coverage has been overwhelming. Four-star wide receiver Deion Walker can be classified in that category as Rivals.com's fifth ranked wideout in the country has been pursued by programs from all over.
Looking for any guidance or an idea on where Walker currently stands in the recruiting process, his father Arthur Walker was recently available to disclose some information, but not too much.
"He's looking at Penn State, Texas Tech, Notre Dame, NC State, and those are his top schools right there," Walker stated.
After already have taken visits earlier in the fall to both Penn State and Notre Dame, it appears that there'd only be two destinations left in which Walker still desires to visit. This seems to be fortunate as the Christchurch, Virginia prospect only has two official visits left, out of his allotted five.
It has been rumored that a visit to Tech has already been confirmed for either the first or second recruiting weekend in January, but this is something that Arthur could neither confirm nor deny.
"I can't say. He's going to let everybody now what he's going to do here once the period opens back up.
The Red Raider coaching staff had recently made a monumental effort in Walker's recruitment before the dead period began.
"Coach Riley had been in contact with Deion pretty much as often as he could be," Walker's father said. "They visited twice and I'm sure that they're trying to set up another visit to come through after the dead period is over."
And besides the interest Riley and the rest of the staff have been showing, what are the other reasons for Walker having the Red Raiders placed in his top four?
"Well of course, the offense. Being a receiver, he really likes their offense. As he finds out more and more about their educational environment about he school, that's something that he's looking to find out more about."
Though his son is being looked at because of his potential on the football field, Arthur Walker says that it's the classroom aspect that holds a special place in Deion's heart.
"His most important factor is the quality of education and the environment."
The field that Deion looks to pursue is in actuarial science. Applying both business and math, there are some schools within his top four that offer this major. But does Texas Tech?
"They don't. But they have a really good business program that he can still take courses in that area."
As far as a date on when Walker will have more of an idea on where he will be attending in the fall of 2008, his father says this his guess is as good as anyone else's.
"All I know is that he told me he would let me and his mom know when he's made his decision."
And as a parent, Arthur Walker has been fulfilling his role as a father.
"We are just offering him guidance and helping him to come up with as much information as he possibly can."
