Sanderson talks Spartan visit
Michigan State is looking to add another offensive lineman to the class of 2008 and one of the players they are focused on is Rhonne Sanderson of Plant High School in Tampa, Florida. The 6-foot-4, 280-pound Sanderson has seen his stock rise significantly the past few weeks and SpartanMag.com was able to speak with him after his visit to East Lansing.
"I liked it a lot," Sanderson stated. "The players, coaches and people were all real nice; overall it was a good place. I got a chance to see snow for the first time too."
Sanderson stated that he was hosted this on this weekend by Spartan offensive lineman Roland Martin.
"He was a fun guy, I liked him. He showed me around and we went out to some parties and met the other players."
Sanderson was not the only prospect on campus this weekend; he talked about the other recruits that he met while in East Lansing.
"I met offensive lineman Conner Bradford for California. He was a nice guy. We were kind of in the same boat as far as the weather. I also met linebacker David Rolf, he seemed used to the weather. Conner and I had long coast on while he just had long sleeves."
The cold weather in the Midwest didn't really seem to bother Sanderson. As evidence by the NFL championship games today in New England and Green Bay, if you plan on playing in the NFL, you better be ready to play outside in cold weather.
Sanderson said he was impressed with what the Spartans had to offer as far as academics and athletic facilities.
"Top notch," he said. "Everything was top notch. Michiga Stat really blew away anything else I have seen so far as far as what they had to offer."
Sanderson indicated that he will be visited by offensive line Coach Dan Roushar later this weekend, Head Coach Mark Dantonio might be down as well. Sanderson spoke with Coach Dantonio this morning before he left.
"He told me that they have a scholarship for me and that he wants me to be part of the team," Sanderson said "He also talked about buying into what they are doing at Michigan State. He said he wants players that are ready to put both feet into the program and work hard."
Sanderson stated that as of right now he plans on making his decision after he returns from his visit to Florida State next weekend. The Seminoles have not offered, but they could offer him while on his official visit.
"I am going to take my visit to Florida State and then I will make my choice. It will either be Florida State or Michigan State."
Obviously beating out the Seminoles for a Florida player will not be easy if they do decide to extend him an offer. The Spartan staff hopes that the relationships and rapport that Sanderson was able to develop with the coaches and players this weekend will be a strong factor in his decision making process.
SpartanMag.com will continue to follow the recruitment of Sanderson over the next week to 10 days.
