Mahnke finally takes official visit to CU
One of the Buffaloes' first verbal commitments from the Class of 2008, Patrick Mahnke has taken countless unofficial visits up to the CU campus. But it was not until this past weekend that he got a chance to take his official visit.
Did the 6-foot-2, 191-pound safety from Highlands Ranch (Colo.) Mountain Vista enjoy the trip?
"It was great," Mahnke expressed. "I couldn't have imagined it going any better."
Freshman safety Anthony Perkins served as his player host for the weekend.
"That was my first time meeting Anthony," he said. "I had been up there unofficially so many times, the official trip didn't feel that much different. But I really liked their presentation of the equipment, and just hanging out with the players and the coaches.
"Basically the day was organized around three meals and around those they were showing different things that pertained to academics or the team."
Mahnke will make his commitment to the Buffs official during a signing day ceremony at his school on February 6th. He is going to celebrate the occasion later that night with his dad and brother.
Mahnke earned All-Colorado, first-team all-state and first-team all-conference honors as a senior.
With the reputation as one of the state's top defensive players, opposing offenses would often run away from Mahnke. "It was really frustrating to tell you the truth," he admitted.
Mahnke said he plans to run track this spring, competing in the 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash and the 4x1 relay. He clocked in at 11.1-seconds in the 100-meter dash last spring as a junior.
