Bruising Ohio back is commit No. 1
Iowa may have two grayshirt recruits from this past year's class set to join the team next year, but the first true commitment in recruiting class of 2009 came today from bruising Ohio running back Brad Rogers. As expected, the 5-foot-10, 230-pound Rogers, who attends Toledo Central Catholic High School, made the call to the Hawkeyes earlier today.
Rogers made no secret about his plans today, as he said nearly three weeks ago that he would commit to Iowa on April 28. What is the significance of the date? Today is his father's birthday and the running back wanted to give dad a present.
As a junior, Rogers rushed for 634 yards and 12 touchdowns despite an ankle injury that limited him in the second half of the season. While he drew interest from Ohio State, Toledo, Bowling Green, and Northwestern, he decided not to wait around once he received his first scholarship offer from Iowa.
The Iowa coaching staff projects Rogers at running back, somewhat in the mold of Wisconsin's P.J. Hill. At 230 pounds, the junior has been timed at 4.65 in the forty and looks forward to a big senior season at Toledo Central Catholic.
Rogers is the first commitment for the Iowa Hawkeyes in the Class of 2009.
