Norwood eager to hit road, see favorites

Kevin Norwood had planned to do some traveling this summer.

Gas prices pushing four dollars per gallon got in the way.

Still, the three-star wide receiver from d'Iberville will be hitting the road later this month, first for a camp at Alabama and later for a camp at Ole Miss, ready to finally start seeing some of the schools that have pursuing him for the better part of six months.

"I'm not close to a decision," said Norwood, who is ranked No. 14 on the RebelSports.net Mississippi Preseason Top 25. "I'm still waiting to see the campuses and whatever. My family really wants me to go to USM. It's closer to home. They're always going to support me, they've told me. But they want to see my games and gas is high."

It is against that backdrop that Alabama and Ole Miss will entertain the 6-foot-3, 180-pound Norwood, hopeful that they can wow him enough to make him and his family ignore the pain at the pump.

"I'm very excited to see them," Norwood said of Alabama and Ole Miss. "I don't really know anything really. I haven't heard anything about their academic programs and that's one of the major things I'm looking for."

The trip to Alabama will come first. Norwood said he's eager to meet Alabama coach Nick Saban and meet some of the Crimson Tide's players.

"I'm looking forward to meeting the head coach and some of their coaches," Norwood said. "I want to see their weight room and the campus and meet some of their players."

Days later, Norwood will make the trip north through Mississippi to Ole Miss. While he doesn't list the Rebels among his leaders _ Norwood said Southern Mississippi, Mississippi State and Alabama lead in the early going and he's expecting an offer from Auburn any day now _ he said he's eager to check Houston Nutt's program out.

"I want to take a tour around the campus and tour around Oxford," Norwood said. "I've never been to Oxford. I want to see what that area looks like."

Meanwhile, Norwood is focusing on improving his game prior to his senior season.

"I need to work on my attitude, on and off the field," Norwood said. "I'm a competitive person, and when things don't go as I want them to, I start to get a little angry and act crazy. I've been working on that. I also need to work on finishing off my routes and getting bigger and stronger and faster."
