Koehne talks time-table for a decision

One of the top players still on the recruiting board for Michigan State University is offensive lineman Kyle Koehne of Cathedral High School in Indianapolis, Indiana. The 6-foot-6, 290-pound prospect has an impressive list of offers including Michigan State and is in the process of narrowing down his choices. caught up with him and has the latest.

Koehne is rated a 3-star prospect by and the #34 guard in the nation for the class of 2009. Despite his listing as a guard in the database, most teams view him as a offensive tackle prospect, or at a minimum a player that could play anywhere on the line in college.

Koehne camped at Michigan State earlier this summer and was offered a scholarship after an impressive performance. asked him about his time in East Lansing?

"I really liked it a lot", Koehne said. "The campus is beautiful and the stadium is awesome. I think the environment up there is one I could see myself playing in. I really liked the coaches up there too."

What coaches do you have contact with from Michigan State?

"I talk with Coach (Mark) Staten, Coach (Dan) Roushar and Coach (Mark) Dantonio. I probably speak with Coach Staten the most though," he said.

There have been published reports that you are thinking about making a decision about where you will play prior to you senior season. Is that still the case?

"I am not really sure; I think I might take a few official visits and then make my choice," Koehne said.

Are there a few schools that standout as far as ones you definitely plan on visiting?

"yes, I would like to visit Michigan State, Boston College and Florida. I have been offered by Michigan State and Boston College, Florida is kind of waiting things out a bit. I spoke with Coach Staten about coming up to Michigan State and seeing what it is like on game day."

Looking at the schedule, it would not a surprise if the Spartans tried to get a lot of prospect on campus the weekend of the Notre Dame game. Coach Dantonio often likes players to wait until after the season to take official visits as that allows him and his staff more time to spend with recruits and their families. However, having recruits on campus unofficial during game days is always a priority.

As far as his upcoming season, Koehne indicated that he is very excited about getting started.

"We actually start up two-a-days tomorrow," he said. "We open the season on national TV. We play Carmel High on ESPN on Saturday the 23rd."

The Cathedral High vs. Carmel High game matches-up two of the most successful and proud programs in Indiana. will be sure to follow-up with Koehne shortly after that big match-up.

Michigan State is tight on scholarships for the class of 2009 and may only take 1-more offensive line prospect. With that said, Koehne did not indicate to that the he is getting any extra pressure on him and he is looking forward to visiting Michigan State University again in the near future.
