Four offers already for 2010 lineman
With numerous talented players in the class of 2009 still sweating out offers and waiting on opportunities, a select few players in the class of 2010 are already stacking up multiple college tenders. Though official scholarship offers are not legally allowed to be issued until Sept. 1 of a player's senior season, coaches can communicate verbal offers to top underclassmen before that date.
That communication has been a regular occurrence for Nashville (Tenn.) Maplewood offensive tackle James Strong. Strong has already gathered four scholarship offers before the first game of his senior season and the most recent offer has come from the ACC in North Carolina.
North Carolina gave Maplewood head coach Ralph Thompson a call to communicate the offer and then Stone got back in touch with the UNC recruiting coordinator.
"James Stone talked to Coach John Blake," said Coach Thompson. "He's the recruiting coordinator and the assistant recruiting Stone is actually going to be Charlie Williams. They got film on him and saw him and looked at him and liked what they saw."
Due to his academic prowess, there won't be a school scared to recruit the 6-foot-4, 287-pounder. He currently carries a 3.7 GPA and he has already scored a 24 on the ACT, making him a sure thing to qualify in the classroom.
Stone has been working hard on the field as Maplewood has practice in full swing.
"Everything's going really well," said his head coach. "We're just trying to work on executing and being physical. James is looking great. He's really looking good."
