One Game Video Snapshot: Edwin Baker

During Thanksgiving week is running a series of one-game highlight video clips on several Michigan State commitments from the Class of 2009. Each day we will feature a different future Spartan. Each of highlights comes from a single game as opposed to an entire season. The footage was shot over the course of the 2008 football season by staffer Rico Beard and other freelancers.

The highlights in today's installment of's Thanksgiving week series One Game Video Snapshots feature Rivals100 running back Edwin Baker.

Baker is ranked the No. 41 overall player in the Class of 2009 by and the No. 5 running back in the country.

The Oak Park (Mich.) High School star had a frustrating senior season. Baker's quest to gain 2,000 yards was derailed by nagging injuries and Oak Park's struggles on defense meant that his team was often put in situations where they were forced to pass rather than hand the ball off to their 5-foot-10, 210-pound tailback.

The highlights included in this story come from Oak Park's game against Oakland County powerhouse Lake Orion. Baker had just 10 carries against Lake Orion in a blowout win for the Dragons. The Spartan commitment rushed for 52 yards.

Baker played in just five games as a senior. Despite missing most of Oak Park's games, Baker finished second in the Oakland Activities Conference Red Division in rushing with 803 yards on 84 carries with 7 touchdowns.

Baker was named first-team all-conference in the OAA despite playing in just five games as a senior.

Baker averaged 9.6 yards per carry as a senior. His best performance came against Royal Oak. In that game, Baker rushed for 405 yards on 28 carries.

The future Spartan was outstanding at camps and combines during the summer. His rare blend of speed and power is the reason why Baker is the top-ranked recruit in Michigan State's outstanding 2009 recruiting class.
