Appleton still open?
Another week has passed, and the recruitment of Kraig Appleton has taken yet another twist.
It was reported earlier on this site that the four-star recruit had narrowed his list to Texas Tech, Wisconsin and Illinois. And though it appeared Appleton had recently given his pledge to Ron Zook and the Illini coaching staff, BadgerBlitz.com has learned the star wide out is still considering two schools.
Sunday night, Kyle Heikkinen caught with Appleton's assistant coach, Curtis Graham, to discuss the recruitment of his star 2009 prospect.
"From what I know, he's not committed to anyone right now," Graham said. "He's got everyone on ice right now. To be honest, I don't know."
Appleton, a 6-foot-3, 190-pound prospect from East St. Louis (IL) just finished his high school career with a state championship one week ago. East St. Louis (13-1) won its first state title since 1991 after beating Geneva (13-1), 33-14, in the Class 7A state title game.
"I recently spoke to the head coach (Darren Sunkett); we both have no idea where Kraig will end up committing," Graham said. "It's down to Wisconsin and Illinois. It's all up in the air."
Appleton is expected to make is final decision known on Jan 3 in San Antonio at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl.
Wisconsin already has one verbal from a wide out in its 2009 class, Jeff Duckworth from Cincinnati (Ohio) Princeton.
