MSU visit goes as Whitley expected

Nickoe Whitley got everything he anticipated when he arrived in Starkville for his official visit to Mississippi State.

The three-star Bulldog commitment made his only trip this weekend and reaffirmed the decision he made back in the summer.

"It went good," Whitley said of his visit. "It went just like I expected. I liked it very much. This weekend made me feel better about my decision."

Whitley was one of 16 recruits visiting the MSU campus this weekend. He was hosted by Charles Bailey and toured various spots on his trip.

"First we went around to all the football facilities," Whitley said. "Then we went to the tutoring room and then went to the (basketball) game. When everybody stood up and clapped for us it made me feel welcome. It made me feel welcome and feel like I am at home."

The Provine star enjoyed getting a chance to spend some time bonding with some of his future teammates.

"It was good," Whitley said. "I had a good time hanging out with those guys."

He also wasn't surprised when four new teammates joined the fold when Chad Bumphis, Dennis Thames , LaDarius Perkins and Darius Slay committed to play for the Bulldogs over the weekend.

"I was expecting that they were going to commit," Whitley said. "It looked like they were having fun."

Whitley said the 2009 class had one main goal and that is to make it to Atlanta for the SEC Championship.

He also mentioned that he had a chance to talk with State head coach Dan Mullen before he left. Whitley said the main topic of the discussion was about getting his surgically repaired ACL and also making sure he is academically eligible.

"We just talked about getting my leg back right and getting my grades up so I can be eligible to play," Whitley said.

Whitley had hoped to have his injured knee rehabbed in time for the second half of baseketball season but said he would not be playing on the hardwood this season.

This was the only scheduled visit the 6-foot-1, 190-pound future safety from Jackson, Miss., will take.
