Michigan picks up Texas commitment

The first offer was the only one Tony Drake needed. Dallas (Texas) Skyline athlete Drake picked up his first offer from Michigan on Wednesday. On Thursday, he spoke to Coach Rich Rodriguez and made his commitment.

"They came and offered and I felt like I fit in with Michigan," Drake said. "I got the offer through my coach and I was really excited because I really like Michigan. It was the perfect fit."

On Wednesday, Drake had a chance to talk with the Michigan coaches and they told him the things he wanted to hear.

"They were just asking what I liked and the things they planned for me and stuff," he said. "They want to use me probably like a combination of Noel Devine and Steve Slaton. The offense is similar to our offense. You might as well say they're the same."

All it took for Drake was one night to sleep on it.

"I talked to my parents and stuff about it and I felt it was a good choice."

Even before the Wolverines came calling, Drake was a fan and had them at the top of his list.

"I've actually always been liking them," he said. "I liked them from watching Charles Woodson and the combination of Mike Hart. I'm happy right now."

Drake becomes the third Dallas (Texas) Skyline prospect in the 2010 class to commit to highly regarded programs. Wide receiver Mike Davis is already committed to LSU, athlete Joe Powell is a sooner commit and now Drake is ready to head to the Big 10.

"I'm ready to get to Ann Arbor so that we can beat Ohio State," he said.

Drake will be taking his first visit to Michigan in the spring or summer and plans to attend the Nike Football Training Camp in Fort Worth in two weeks.
