Jersey DE talks Big East Offer
Paterson (NJ) Paterson Catholic defensive end T.J. Clemmings recently added a Syracuse offer to his list of scholarships. Syracuse has had a few athletes come from the New Jersey high school some in football and some in basketball. CuseConfidential.com caught up with Clemmings to see what he thinks about the Orange.
"They [Syracuse] offered me about three weeks ago," Clemmings said. "I was excited about it because any offer right now is great. Jarel [Lowery] is up there right now and he has been telling me good things and how bad they want me. I was excited about it and thankful."
Clemmings, 6-foot-6, 254 pounds has not been to Syracuse, but his former teammate has told him some nice items. His former high school teammate is also looking forward to Clemmings visiting the Orange.
"I have not been up there to see the school, so I have no idea what things are like up there. From what I am hearing it is a nice place up there," Clemmings stated. "Jarel has been talking to me and telling me to come up there. He told me to let him know when I get a chance to come up."
Derrick Jackson is recruiting Clemmings for the Orange and when he was offered the Syracuse coaches talked about why they extended an offer.
"I think I remember one of the coaches saying that they like the way I come off of the edge and what I bring to the table."
What does the Garden State product think is the reason coaches are starting to take note?
"Honestly I don' know. I guess just the energy I bring off of the edge and getting to the quarterback My strengths are my strength and speed."
Besides Syracuse Clemmings holds four other offers from Duke, Maryland, Notre Dame, and Rutgers. Out of his five offers a couple schools are sticking out over other ones at this moment.
"Right now I like Maryland and Notre Dame."
Don't worry Orange fans Clemmings has not forgot about Syracuse.
"Right now I just have to visit and see how the coaching staff is. I just have to see the place so if I were to go there I would know if I could spend four years there and be comfortable and happy."
Even though he has not taken a visit to Syracuse one could be in the cards.
"It is about three or fours away, so I will hopefully get up there if I can."
Growing up as a defensive end Clemmings has two players that stick out to him.
"I like to watch Michael Strahan and Dwight Freeney."
Freeney went to Syracuse and it was not until recently that Clemmings put that together and once he did he had some other thoughts on the Orange.
"I never thought about it, but I will give Syracuse a good look. I mean hey, they have developed players for the league, it can't be to bad up there."
When it comes to other offers the defensive prospect thinks his next offer could come from a school in the Big Ten.
"I think Penn St. may offer."
With a handful of offers already in a decision is not likely to come any time soon.
"If all goes right I would like to make my decision two days after the football season."
