Brown wants to be 'Peyton?' Hold on

MORGANTOWN--Jarrett Brown wants to call his own plays from the line of scrimmage at some point this season.

Before you request another beer at your tailgate or restaurant, let him retrace that comment.

Jeff Mullen, step away from the commode. No need to blow dinner after you sit down with your family for a Saturday meal for maybe the first time all spring.

"I wanna be like Peyton," said Brown resolutely in the Puskar Interview Room.

"Peyton," as in Manning, one of the planet's top three quarterbacks. Before earning All-Pro and Super Bowl championship status, Manning became a student of the game during his days in the Tennessee film room. He continued his graduate work with the Colts, where he runs the offense.

Brown, a redshirt senior, is in his first year as West Virginia's starting quarterback. He passed for 273 yards and four touchdowns on Saturday. On previous scrimmage Saturdays, he had matched that number of four TD passes. He threw five to slot receiver Wes Lyons (6 receptions, 118 yards, 2 TDs) in the first scrimmage of the now-completed spring football practice.
