Receivers stepping up, depth is building

Monday was a perfect day for the Oregon State wide receivers to strut their stuff. It was a beautiful sunny day which brought the coeds out from their winter slumber and had everyone around Prothro Field in good spirits.

And it was a case of the usual suspects. That is, each OSU quarterback appears to have his favorite target. As a result, it was a handful of receivers that shined on Monday. How fittingly, junior Darrell Catchings was the most impressive of the bunch. Him and Sean Canfield have a great rapport so far.

Coming off Friday's scrimmage in which he caught six passes for 251 yards including touchdown passes of 70 and 71, yards, Catchings didn't miss a beat. He abused whoever was covering him, including senior cornerback Tim Clark. Long or short, Catchings came up with the ball. At first, it was junior James Dockery that struggled against Catchings. There were several underthrown balls that Catchings came back to, leaped in the air for and came down with despite tight coverage by Dockery.
