Elite TE talks Tide

With four commitments from the state of Georgia for the 2010 class, Alabama has already made its presence felt in the Peach State and the Crimson Tide is making a strong push for one of the state's top prospects, Columbus (GA) Brookstone tight end Brian Vogler. The 6-foot-7, 248-pound four star prospect has wowed college coaches from around the country amassing an impressive offer list but has not been content to rest on his laurels this spring.

"I've been working on my strength and my quickness this spring both in the weight room and with my track and field team," Vogler said. "I feel like those are the two areas where I really have room to improve."

Vogler, rated the nation's No. 6 tight end prospect by, has kept in touch with Alabama assistant Kirby Smart and after watching what UA tight ends Travis McCall and Nick Walker were able to accomplish last fall, the Rivals250 star believes Tuscaloosa is an ideal place for an elite tight end to play.

"I try to call Coach Smart pretty often. He's a great guy, I love talking to him. He has talked to me and to my coach a good bit about how Alabama wants to use me and how I would fit into the offense and to the program as a whole."

"I watched Alabama last year and I know that tight ends are a very important part of what they do. I really pride myself on being well-rounded as a tight end so I feel like I block just as well as I catch. Alabama uses their tight ends in a lot of different ways and I think Alabama sees me as a guy who can sort of give them that versatility."

The Crimson Tide's strong early impression has them firmly in the mix for Vogler's services along with several other SEC powers.

"Right now I have eight schools that are sort of my top group but all eight are equal for me right now. It's Alabama, LSU, Tennessee, Auburn, Boston College, Florida State, Miami and Oklahoma."

With more than enough offers on the table at this point, Vogler said he'll spend the summer trying to learn more about his final eight schools and get himself closer to making a final decision.

"I'm not going to any camps this summer but I will be visiting a lot of campuses. I'm going up to Boston College first and then my plan is to hit LSU, Oklahoma and Alabama before the summer is over. I want to wait until later in the summer to go to Alabama so I can be there when all the players are there getting ready for the season."

"Hopefully, I will be ready to make a decision by August or September so I can have it done before my senior year but it's really going to depend on how I'm feeling. If I get to that point and I'm not feeling it, I will wait but I think after all my visits this summer I should be able to have a good idea by then."

As a junior, Vogler hauled in 21 receptions for 465 yards and 6 touchdowns, averaging 21.7 yards per catch. Vogler also boasts a 305-pound bench press, a 30-inch vertical leap and a 4.67 forty time.
