Top corner talks Cardinal

As Stanford continues to secure verbal commitments from the top prospects in the country, it's clear that some of the top prospects in the country are taking notice.

One of the top recruits for the Cardinal at the CB position is Atlanta (GA) Westlake CB Darius Robinson. Robinson has over 20 offers at this point, and is one of the top corners in the South.

Although he had received a verbal offer from the coaching staff awhile back, Darius didn't receive his written offer until quite recently.

"I can't even remember when I got my offer, it was a verbal offer, and it was a while back." Darius revealed to CardinalReport. " Then maybe two weeks ago, I received my written offer in the mail. Coach Taggart had come to my school, and talked with me and Michael Taylor, but he couldn't say much because of recruiting rules. He told both of us to give him a shout last night, and we each called separately, and he told us more about Stanford and what it could offer."

Darius maintains constant contact with Coach Taggart, and also has talked with Coach White about how he would fit in.

" I've spoken with Coach White, the DB coach, a couple of times, and he told me about the schemes he runs and the type of CB's he likes." Darius explained. " I have a great relationship with Coach Taggart, and he is really straight up, and really wise when it comes to recruiting."

Darius is not only being recruited to Stanford by the coaches, but is also hearing from some of the current 2010 commits.

" Yes sir, I actually spoke to Tai-Ler today, and Daunte Carr is one of my great friends. They both told me that I need to go out there and see the campus for myself. They have both taken several trips out there, so they know what they're taken about."

The impact of the Stanford offer was huge on Robinson's parents, as they recognize the academic opportunities Stanford can present.

" My parents were very excited about the offer." Darius explained. " They weren't into letting me go far away for school, but they said Stanford was the one they would be ok with. They recognize the great academics, and the windows that it opens and everything that Stanford offers."

While Darius certainly possesses the physical gifts of a great CB, it's the mental part of his game that stands out.

"At the CB position, it's all about confidence and swagger." Darius told CardinalReport. " I feel like I can compete with any receiver, no matter how fast, or strong, or tall they are. I try to do my best to shut them down, and I try my hardest on every play."

Along with the education, the success of Stanford in the recruiting world is something that is really making the Cardinal stand out.
" Stanford is really coming up, and this year is probably going to have one of the strongest recruiting classes." Darius explained to CardinalReport. " I heard Coach Harbaugh is a very good man, and I just feel like Stanford is coming up in the football world."

Darius maintains contact with many of the schools that have offered, but as of right now, two schools are standing out for the 3* CB.

" Stanford and Miami are two schools that I am in contact with very often. A lot of the other schools contact me a lot, and are on the same level, but I think Stanford and Miami stand out."

After hearing about the campus from the coaching staff and some of the commits, Darius might have the chance to see if for himself very soon.

" I've been talking to Coach Taggart, and he has been looking up flights so that I can get out there for the camp on June 22nd. If that doesn't work, then I will definitely take an official visit."

With a 3.4 core GPA and a 1370 on the SAT, Darius is confident that he can handle the application process if Stanford is his decision.

" I feel like I can get it done in the classroom, and if Stanford is my decision, then I will do my best to make sure getting admitted isn't a problem. I think I probably want to major in something like business or financing."

Darius plans to take his time before making any decision, but admits that if he falls in love with a school, he will commit.

" As of now, my mindset is to take as many official visits as possible." Darius explained. "If I take an official visit early, and that school really impresses me, then I will make my choice, and won't take anymore visits."
