Malzahn planning quick decision at QB
Preseason practice officially gets underway one week from today. Not long after, Auburn offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn hopes to have a starting quarterback named.
"With the situation we're in we have to find a guy as soon as possible," Malzahn said. "It's hard to say a certain time right now -- a week or two weeks -- but there will be an evaluation stage fairly quick, ideally, to name a guy as soon as we can once we know 100 percent that's our guy so you can start to develop that timing."
Auburn will begin fall drills with seven scholarship quarterbacks on the roster but only six ready to compete after redshirt freshman Barrett Trotter injured his knee and had surgery in the spring.
The six contenders will need to come out firing on all cylinders.
