Colter opens it up
Kain Colter, a 6-foot-1, 185 pound athlete at Cherry Creek High School in Englewood, Colo., is no longer committed to Stanford and will not be signing with the school, Colter told Rivals.com late Monday.
"It's just frustration with the application process at Stanford," Colter said. "It was taking too long and I didn't want to miss out on other opportunities if it didn't work out."
Colter, the No. 44 recruit at the "athlete" position and No. 7 prospect in Colorado, said he is likely to take additional official visits in January before reaching a decision.
"Arizona State, Northwestern, Nebraska and TCU are the schools that have expressed interested and that I'm looking at right now," Colter said. "I'm very fortunate to have some good opportunities and I'm willing to consider other schools that recruit me now that [the Stanford decommitment] is out there."
Colter played quarterback at Cherry Creek, and it's the position he would ideally like to play in college, but he knows he may not end up there long term.
"I just want the opportunity to play quarterback wherever I end up," Colter said. "I'd like to go to a school that gives me a chance to play quarterback first and then if it doesn't end up working out that would be fine and I'd be willing to play somewhere else."
In mid-December, Colter visited ASU, an area he is familiar with as his father and uncle both played at Tempe McClintock. His uncle, Cleveland Colter, was an All-American at USC.
"It looks like I'll probably take a visit to Nebraska next month and then I'll see if I can set up other visits and then just go from there." Colter said.
