Football Notebook: Briscoe trains in Texas

Maybe the best way for former Kansas wide receiver Dezmon Briscoe to break down his future in the NFL is to predict how he will perform in the virtual world. Briscoe, a football video game addict, was modest when he predicted how high he will be rated in Madden 2011.

"I will be realistic and say 79 or 80," Briscoe said. "I would probably say rangy receiver who can go up and get the ball. Probably not the fastest player, but a spectacular catch guy."

Briscoe is trying to improve the speed part by training with former Olympic sprinter Michael Johnson in McKinney, Texas in preparation for next month's NFL Combine.

"He is a really clean cut guy and he will tell us what we need to hear," Briscoe said of Johnson. "He won't get on us but he will tell us what our flaws are."

Other notable players training with him are Dexter McCluster, Sergio Kindle, and Roddrick Muckelroy. Briscoe said most of the training sessions are spent breaking down various parts of his 40-yard dash to try and improve his time. He also spends a portion of the day practicing for the Wonderlic Test and doing interview preparation work.

"I just have to know how to answer certain questions when they come up," Briscoe said. "Obviously I had a few situations at Kansas that I know will be brought up at the combine. The interview prep just shows me how not to be pressured by it and let my answers come out smooth."

Briscoe said most teams are telling him he will be selected in the second round.

So long Onyegbule

Defensive end Max Onyegbule heard back from the NCAA last week that he didn't receive a medical redshirt, which means his college football career is over. Onyegbule said he thought he had a 50/50 chance of getting the fifth year of eligibility after the season was over. Onyegbule played four games his freshman year and sat out the rest of the season with an ankle injury.

"I was really disappointed about the decision but right now I am just training for the school's pro day," Onyegbule said.

Onyegbule said he hasn't hired an agent yet and is in Lawrence for the spring semester to finish up his degree in economics.
