McCray and Pressley suffer ACL tears

Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher said defensive tackle Moses McCray and running back Tavares Pressley are going to miss the entire 2010 season due to ACL tears following the morning session of the team's first two-a-day practice on Tuesday afternoon.

Losing McCray appears to be a significant blow. The 6-foot-2, 316-pound junior was the most experienced and biggest defensive tackle on the roster. He started nine games last year and was listed on the second team on the depth chart after missing the entire spring with an elbow injury.

Pressley, a 6-foot, 206-pound senior, had just nine carries last season and was the fourth-string running back. He missed all of the 2008 season due to another ACL tear suffered in preseason practice.

"It's unfortunate, very unfortunate," head coach Jimbo Fisher said of the injuries. "Both guys were injured while making cuts on the field."

Moses' absence leaves the Seminoles with only two returning defensive tackles who have game experience: sophomores Everett Dawkins, who moved full-time to tackle this spring, and Jacobbi McDaniel.

Redshirt freshman Demonte McAllister and junior college transfer Anthony McCloud, who joined the team in the spring, are expected to be part of the rotation. True freshman Darious Cummings and Cameron Erving now have a better chance of playing due to McCray's injury as well.

"Not really, we still have five or six guys there," said Fisher when asked about if the McCray injury will hurt their depth. "Guys are developing. Demonte's been coming on very well. Darious has a great body and he has been really physical on the inside."

McAllsiter, who has added 22 pounds since the spring and now weighs 280, talked about the impact of McCray's injury.

"For me it means an opportunity to come in behind Everett and try and work my way into the rotation," McAllister said. "Moses is a big loss for us, but we are still going to try to work hard.

FSU has now lost three possible starters since the end of spring. Receiver Jarmon Forston was dismissed from the team for reportedly failing a drug test and linebacker Nigel Carr is currently suspended after being arrested and charged with multiple felonies.

There's no word on when McCray and Pressley will have surgeries yet.
