Practice Quickies

UCLA held their last practice on the basics today and on Monday, they will start preparing for Illinois in earnest. The practice, as has always been the case with Mike Johnson at the helm, was a fast paced affair.

Some of that energy may have been fueled by the presence of new head coach, Jim L. Mora, and new assistant coaches, Adrian Klemm and Demetrice Martin, plus an impressive array of prospects.

Kyle Long sure looks like the real deal. He looks like he is in better shape than anyone currently on the roster. The Bruins look to be fighting Oregon for his services. He would definitely be a huge pickup for the Bruins if they are lucky to land him. He has two years of eligibility, but he may be one of those guys who will be one and done. Long has that type of ability and he already looks like a NFL guy.

Other prospects on hand that weren't mentioned previously were four-star corner, Kevon Seymour (6-0, 180) from Pasadena (Calif.) Muir. He was extremely impressed with what he saw and said he has a lot to think about.

Arizona State linebacker commit, C.J. Dozier (6-2, 205) from Temecula (Calif.) Chaparral and Oregon defensive end pledge, Jeremy Castro were also on hand and were last to leave. The wheels were churning.

The no shows were Jordan Simmons (6-5 330) from Encino (Calif.) Crespi, Jaydon Mickens (5-8, 170) Los Angeles (Calif.) Dorsey and Gabriel Marks (6-0, 175) from Los Angeles (Calif.) Venice.

After a day of rest Kevin Prince came back and had a good day of practice. According to Johnson, Prince had good energy, made the right checks, got the ball out of his hands on time and overall had a good day of practice. The day ended up being very good for him.

Sheldon Price took the day off to rest his knee.

On the job front, Johnson is still looking at his options. He has a couple of options on his table that he is looking at and probably some time next week he will know what his future is. Johnson has been a stand up guy throughout the process. He is still being considered by Akron among others.

According to multiple sources, Noel Mazzone will end up being UCLA's offensive coordinator. It may not be announced however for a couple of days.
