Linebacker commit is comfortable with choice
Bobby Wolford would be signing with Brigham Young in February. After all, he was verbally committed to the Utah school. Last month, however, Wolford flipped to Boston College. For a while it looked as though
The 6-foot-3, 232-pound linebacker from Jacksonville (Fla.) Bishop Kenny has had more than a month to think about his decision to flip to BC and he hasn't had any second thoughts.
"Most schools have backed off but some have kept recruiting me," Wolford said. "Wake Forest offered me and tried to recruit me but I'm solid. I'll be going to Boston College."
Wolford's official visit to BC a few weeks back helped solidify his decision.
"It was fantastic," he said of the official. "I got to see the campus and really got to experience Boston in-depth for the first time. It was a fantastic trip. It really couldn't have gone any better."
Bishop Kenny's regular season couldn't have gone any better this fall. In fact, for just the second time in school history the team posted an undefeated mark in regular season play. It didn't end so well, though.
"We lost in the first round of the playoffs and that was tough," he said. "We should have moved on. It was still a good year, though."
It was certainly a good year for Wolford on an individual level. Defensively he registered 122 tackles and an interception while he caught a lot of passes, including five touchdowns, on offense. He started on both sides of the ball and noticed a lot of improvement from his junior year.
"I think overall my intelligence really improved, just knowing what's going on with the plays and everything. The experience factor helped with that.
"From an athletic standpoint I improved my hip flexibility and I got better in pass coverage."
Wolford has been recruited exclusively as a linebacker by the Eagles and one of the reasons he chose BC in November was the great linebacker tradition at the school. All the accolades received by Luke Kuechly were exciting for Wolford.
"It was really exciting to see all the awards. I knew about the tradition boston College has at linebacker," he concluded.
