Newsroom Argument: Adams stays & what it means

EAST LANSING - Michigan State confirmed on Monday that first-team All-Big Ten cornerback Johnny Adams will return for his senior year.

Adams made his decision public with a tweet on Monday, stating: "Back in East Lansing for my senior year!!!!! -- JA_05 (@JA_05)."

Michigan State officials confirmed that Adams has enrolled for spring semester and was at Monday morning's team meeting.

Adams tied for fifth in the Big Ten in passes defense with nine (three interceptions, six break-ups). He also had three sacks.

Adams will return as a fifth-year senior. He redshirted in 2009 after his sophomore season.

Adams was second-team All-Big Ten in 2010.

With Adams remaining on the team, Michigan State will return nine of 11 starters from a defense which ranked No. 1 in the Big Ten and No. 5 in the nation in total defense.

Running back Edwin Baker and defensive tackle Jerel Worthy decided last week to forgo their senior seasons in order to join the NFL Draft.

With Adams, Michigan State will return three-quarters of its defensive backfield, including junior-to-be strong safety Isaiah Lewis and junior-to-be cornerback Darqueze Dennard.
