Parmalee helping to recruit
Tre Parmalee knew a lot about Kansas before his official visit this weekend. He knew more than the other official visitors but came away with new knowledge of the Jayhawks program. Parmalee has made visits in the past to Lawrence but got a closer look this time around.
"One of the things that I liked was the academic program they offer," Parmalee said. "It was the first time I met with the academic people. They do everything they can to help the players. Everything is right there to do well."
Parmalee, who landed several post-season honors at Bishop Miege, was hosted by Justin McCay. Like Parmalee, McCay also attended Miege and played wide receiver. McCay graduated the year Parmalee moved to Kansas City.
"We had a chance to bond more," Parmalee said. "We have a closer relationship now that we know each other better. He took me under his wings and showed me around."
On the visit Parmalee got to see old friends in Charlie Weis Jr. and Reilly Jeffers. He also spent a lot of time around Schyler Miles, a linebacker recruit from Florida.
"I hung out with Schyler a lot and we got to become good friends." Parmalee said. "He's a good guy and a great player. I'm working hard on him to get him here."
Former Miege head coach Tim Grunhard was one of the coaches Parmalee got to talk to on the visit. Grunhard was the coach at Miege the last two seasons when Parmalee played there. He also met with new defensive coordinator Dave Campo.
"All of the coaches were awesome," Parmalee said. "Coach Campo is a great and coach. I liked the way he has an uplifting spirit about him."
His parents (Angel and Bernie) went on the visit. Bernie was on the staff at Notre Dame with Charlie Weis. He also coached with him at the Kansas City Chiefs.
