Allensworth commits to 'Cats
Two-way prospect Darius Allensworth of Menifee (Calif.) Heritage only held one offer heading into his weekend visit at Arizona. Rich Rodriguez's program offered Allensworth back in March, and after visiting Tucson this weekend he decided to give the Wildcats his verbal commitment.
"The spring game was nice and I like what Rich Rod is bringing in," Allensworth told GOAZCATS.com Saturday night. "I think his philosophy is going to fit in well there. I thought the campus tour was nice, I like all the new buildings they're going to put up.
"And I just want to be a part of that."
Committing in April was not always part of the plan for Allensworth, but he did hint earlier in the week that a good trip would certainly make it possible for him to commit to the Wildcats.
"Honestly I didn't think I was going to commit this early," Allensworth said Saturday night. "I thought I was going to commit after my senior season. But I could have never predicted I was going to commit this early.
One of the things Allensworth wanted to talk about with the coaches this weekend was where they see him fitting in on the roster. Although he plays both wide receiver and cornerback, the 2013 prospect would prefer to be on the defensive side of the ball when he gets to college.
"For right now the plan is to play on the defensive side of the ball, but it could change," Allensworth said.
Allensworth's verbal pledge gives the 'Cats four commitments overall in the 2013 class, but it is the first prospect that will likely end up on the defensive side of the ball. Running back Zachary Green as well as athlete prospect Mauriece Lee both committed on their visits last weekend.
Meanwhile, four-star offensive guard Logan Stott has been committed since last year.
Allensworth was also hearing from BYU and Colorado before his decision to join the 'Cats.
