Neitzke talks Saturday visit

Wisconsin's 2013 in-state class is as deep and talented as it's been since Bret Bielema has been the head coach of the Badgers.

Particularly at the defensive end position, there's a bevy of talent with Chikwe Obasih, A.J. Natter and Alec James all holding offers from UW.

Behind them, a number of talented athletes, including Appleton North's Logan Neitzke, have been in contact with the coaching staff.

"Me and coach (Ben) Strickland talked a bit about where I was on their board and I'm definitely going to come to camp to show what I can do," Neitzke told BadgerBlitz.com after his unofficial visit Saturday.

"He (Strickland) said I'm right below guys like Obasih, Natter and James and that it's important that I come to camp."

A 6-foot-4, 225-pound junior, Neitzke had a chance to watch the Badgers' first scrimmage of spring camp.

"I had a great time watching practice," he said. "It made me want to get some pads on myself, especially when they started their scrimmage. Afterwards I talked with coach Strickland, my recruiting coordinator, and he gave me a tour of the facilities.

"It really motivated me to keep working hard and bring it to another level."

Minnesota, Northern Illinois, Ball State, South Dakota and North Dakota State, according to Neitzke, are showing strong interest, while North Dakota was the first school to offer a scholarship.

"I visited Minnesota and North Dakota last week already and next weekend I might be headed down to Northern Illinois' spring game," he said. "But it doesn't look like I'll be able to visit any other schools this spring."

Though a potential offer from Wisconsin will likely rely heavily on decisions from other in-state players, Nietzke is happy to be garnering serious from the school he grew up rooting for.

"I grew up watching the Badgers and it's always been a sort of dream of mine," Nietzke said. "Yesterday it was kind of crazy thinking that I actually have an opportunity to make it happen."
