Weekly Review: Texas State
Texas Tech will take on Texas State in San Marcos, Texas, Saturday at 6 p.m.
In case you haven't been glued to RedRaiderSports.com all week, here is what has happened on campus in the week leading up to the game:
*The top two Z receivers, Darrin Moore and Javon Bell have been activated from one-game suspensions stemming from off-season events. They should add a lot to the Red Raiders' passing game which was effective last weekend but not anywhere near the expectations the coaches have for the pass.
*Redshirt freshman Alfredo Morales will start at left guard for a second game but head coach Tommy Tuberville said Beau Carpenter is gaining ground and he hopes to play the two evenly in the next few games.
*Tyson Williams is healthy and will travel with the team.
*Walk-on Summitt Hogue made the travel roster for kickoff duties after making two tackles on kickoff last week.
*It doesn't mean much, but running back SaDale Foster is not listed on the two-deep. Eric Stephens is slated to start with Kenny Williams behind him.
*Starting SAM linebacker Terrance Bullitt will play Saturday after a stinger to his shoulder which was injured all last season.
*Zach Winbush will back up Sam Eguavoen at WILL linebacker.
*Defensive end Pete Robertson is listed as the backup right end. He was not listed last week.
*Tuberville expects WILL linebacker Chris Payne to make the trip.
*Cornerback Derrick Mays was held out Saturday for an injury. He should be available.
*Tech is virtually fully healthy.
Five Red Raiders to watch Saturday
WR 88 Marcus Kennard
Kennard made a big statement in last week's win with two touchdowns.
WR 14 Darrin Moore
Moore is back from a one-game suspension and should start at Z receiver. He most likely would have been Tech's most productive receiver last season had it not been for an injury in the third game of the 2011 campaign. He's healthy now.
WR 1 Javon Bell
Bell also is back from a one-game suspension and will back up Moore. Bell has world-class speed and will be the Red Raiders best big play threat.
QB 7 Seth Doege
Doege didn't have a great debut. One touchdown to one interception and about 200 yards passing. He should be able to air it out a little more against the Bobcats because the Red Raiders want to get a handle on the game very early.
SLB 1 Terrance Bullitt
Bullitt will play Saturday after looking like he reaggravated his shoulder injury in last week's game. The strong side linebacker is fine and will play against Texas State.
Quote of the week
"Last year they outplayed us for three quarters, and we were fortunate to get a couple of turnovers and get a lead and pull away from it. But that thing went down and probably should have gone down to the wire, and we knew it."
