Heartbreaking news for FSU commitment

Heartbreaking news for FSU commitment

By: Michael Langston

Florida State offensive line commitment Richy Klepal's football career has come to a premature end.

After multiple concussions and the threat of possible brain damage, the Plant (Tampa, Fla.) four-star prospect learned he has to give up football. He broke the news this afternoon to his Panther teammates.

Klepal told Warchant.com he experienced his fifth concussion during the John Curtis game on Sept. 7. Over the past couple of days he was feeling dizzy and went to the doctor. A MRI revealed "red spots on his brain". His doctor explained even minor contact in football would be life threatening.

"I love football, but not more than living," said Klepal.

After revealing the news to his teammates this afternoon, he called his lead recruiter at Florida State, Lawrence Dawsey (who recruits the Tampa area) and head coach Jimbo Fisher.

Plant head coach Robert Weiner commented on their discussion.

"Just got off the phone with Coach Dawsey and Coach Fisher, it is a tough situation for Richy, but Coach Fisher made sure Richy knew they were honoring his scholarship. They were more concerned about his health than anything," Weiner said. "He treated Richy like he was already part of the team. It's been a roller coaster day for Richy, but he is at a real emotional high now, knowing that he can continue his education at Florida State. I think it speaks volumes for the type of man Coach Fisher is, that he is still honoring Richy's scholarship."

Klepal committed to the Seminoles in July. He was one of four offensive line commitments for the 2013 recruiting class.
