Bears snag Miami point

The California basketball recruiting class got just a little bit stronger today with the commitment of three-star Miami (Fla.) Ransom Everglades point guard Sam Singer.
Fresh off of in-home visits to top targets Marcus Lee and Torren Jones in recent weeks, the Bears were intent on taking a point guard in this class, and during Singer's in-home visit with the Cal staff at the end of September, he was told just how valuable he was.

Singer was first exposed to Cal in late June, when he and his team tripped out to Berkeley for the Bears' annual team camp. Singer got to experience the coaching style of the Cal staff and compete on the floor of Haas Pavilion, which he will call home for the next four years.
Last season, Singer averaged an eye-popping 34.1 points, seven rebounds and seven assists, playing both guard positions at 6-foot-3, 185 pounds. Singer had some early interest in Stanford -- even paying the Cardinal a visit after he was through with his Berkeley experience -- but all along, it was the Bears that held the lead.

In late August, Singer came back out to the Bay Area to once again survey the two rival programs, having grown an inch to 6-foot-4. On his second trip, Singer got to see more of Berkeley and the campus, getting an in-depth feel for the program and a face-to-face sit-down with head coach Mike Montgomery.

Singer committed to Cal right before his afternoon workout, so stay tuned for more from the man himself, and also from Rivals.com National Recruiting Analyst Eric Bossi.
