FSU of second biggest blown lead in school history

FSU foils 16-point halftime lead, the second largest in FSU history

Florida State's second-half collapse was one for the record books.

The Seminoles lost to N.C. State 17-16 after leading 16-0 at halftime on Saturday night, and it goes down as the second largest blown halftime lead in program history.

Warchant combed through every box score in FSU history and found that the largest botched lead came on Oct. 5, 1974 - almost 38 years to the day of Saturday's loss - when the Seminoles led Baylor in Tallahassee 17-0 at the break before falling 21-17. The Seminoles went 1-10 in 1974.

FSU coach Jimbo Fisher also headed a FSU team with the third largest blown halftime lead ever, which came at N.C. State on Oct. 28, 2010 when the Seminoles led 21-7 before falling 28-24. Combining the past two trips to Raleigh, FSU has been outscored by the Wolfpack 38-3 in the second half.

In all, Florida State has played 730 games in program history and it has only seen five double-digit halftime leads turn into losses. In 1990, FSU led Auburn 17-7 before losing 20-17 and in 1985, the Seminoles jumped out to a 24-14 edge on Miami before falling 35-27.

Florida State (5-1, 2-1 ACC) hosts Boston College at 5:30 p.m. ET on Saturday. The Seminoles will be looking to avoid back-to-back losses, an occurrence that tripped them up in both 2010 and 2011.
