CLEMSON, S.C. -- A game that began with so much promise again ended in a way Virginia Tech fans are unaccustomed to, a fourth loss.

The Hokies scored a touchdown on their opening drive, but faltered thereafter and fell to Clemson 38-17.

More questions than answered are again the theme. Virginia Tech didn't get any help from the officials. A play where junior quarterback Logan Thomas, under duress and throwing to freshman running bacl J.C. Coleman, was blown dead even though no part of Thomas touched the ground besides his feet.

A pair of fumbles, despite being reviewed, also went against the Hokies.

But Virginia Tech also caused its own trouble. Thomas threw an interception that was returned by the Tigers' Jonathan Meeks 74 yards for a touchdown. Down 14 in the fourth quarter, Thomas lateraled to senior wide receiver Marcus Davis, who lofted a lazy pass off his back foot towards Thomas that was also intercepted.

The Hokies' defense did well to shut down the hyped Clemson offense, but the miscues more than caught up with Virginia Tech.

Publisher Jason Stamm recapped the game afterward, inside Memorial Stadium.
