Haith lands fourth commitment
The 2013 Mizzou Tiger basketball class added another member today as Torren Jones ended his recruitment shortly after leaving Columbia where he had been on his official visit. Jones becomes the fourth member of Frank Haith's 2013 class joining Johnathan Williams III, Wesley Clark, and Travis Jorgenson.
"I just see myself playing for Coach Haith and him developing me as a player," Jones said. "Working on my game individually and as a team. I just felt like it is the best fit for me right now."
Jones called the coaches to inform them of his decision while traveling to the airport. As expected they were all very happy to get the news.
"They were very excited," said Jones. "They were happy we got it done."
For Jones the main factor in his decision to commit to Mizzou was his relationship with the coaches and players, but there were also some other factors that made the decision a no brainer.
"They're great facilities," raved Jones. "They have an individual weight room just for basketball which is nice because we won't have to share with anybody. Just the atmosphere when the gym is packed will be great. I like that it is a college town and everybody supports Mizzou."
Once Jones gets to Mizzou he plans to major in sports management and minor in business, but until then he is working to get ready for his senior year. Jones, a 6-foot-8 forward with a knack for finishing in the post, has set some big goals for his final high school season.
"I'm working my butt off every day trying to get better so that it pays off in the season," Jones said. "Trying to get this national prep school championship under my belt before I go off to college."
The four man class that the Tiger coaches have assembled will be ranked around 15 nationally when the new rankings come out. Jones does not know his future teammates yet, but that will change soon.
"I've heard of Wes Clark and J3, but I don't know them personally. I'm looking forward to playing alongside them. We'll start talking cause of the bridge program they do for new recruits. I'll talk to them about that," said Jones.
Rivals.com national basketball recruiting analyst Eric Bossi has watched Jones play several times and likes what he brings to Mizzou.
"I think he brings great energy to the floor, has a body to build on, and is a great guy that gets being a great teammate. Torren is a hard working guy that will clean things up down low," according to Bossi.
PowerMizzou.com will monitor Jones, who plans to sign during the fall signing period, senior season and keep Tiger fans updated on any news.
