Darryl Cato-Bishop ready to feast on BC

NC State redshirt junior defensive end Darryl Cato-Bishop has plenty of reasons to want to defeat Boston College at 3 p.m. Saturday on Senior Day at Carter-Finley Stadium.

The Roxbury, Mass., native grew up about 15 minutes East of Boston College and has friends that play for the 2-9 Eagles. Boston College has won four of the last five games, including last year's sore sport, a 14-10 loss in Chestnut Hill, Mass.

Cato-Bishop and the defense also want to redeem themselves after falling 62-48 to No. 11-ranked Clemson last Saturday, and send out the seniors with a victory on Senior Day at Carter-Finley Stadium.

Last but definitely not least, the sound of 7-5 is a lot better than 6-6, plus the Wolfpack are aiming for a good bowl berth.

"It's always fun to play against some people from back home," Cato-Bishop said. "I know them pretty well and they recruited me, so it's always fun.

"We've only beaten them once in the last four years, so that's the motivation and we need a win. We lost last week, so this would be a big win for us."

The Wolfpack defense features seniors such as Brandan Bishop and Earl Wolff at safety, Sterling Lucas at middle linebacker, Brian Slay and McKay Frandsen at defensive end and C.J. Wilson at cornerback in the two-deep.

The Wolfpack have gone 4-1 on Senior Day under coach Tom O'Brien, and 3-2 in regular season finales.

"That is always big because you want the seniors to go out the right way," Cato-Bishop said. "We have to beat BC to help our seniors go out the right way.

"It's always, always, always good to be above .500 [record-wise]."

Boston College has a pair of seniors at the tackle spots and three sophomores on the interior. The Eagles rushed for 167 yards on 45 carries during last week's 30-23 loss to Virginia Tech. Junior tailback Rolandan Finch, who is filling in for the injured Andre Williams, rushed for 138 yards on six carries, and caught five passes for 53.

The 6-foot-4, 281-pound Cato-Bishop has 32 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks and 14 quarterback pressures this season. He ranks eighth in the ACC in sacks and knows what to expect from Boston College.

"They are pretty good, and they kick back, are real aggressive and strong," Cato-Bishop said. "They have two good tackles, so it's our job up front to put a lot of pressure on them and get to the quarterback. We need to do a better job than we did last week."

One of the sore spots from the Clemson game was not getting one sack on the elusive Tajh Boyd. BC junior quarterback Chase Rettig isn't anywhere near the scrambler Boyd is, but does possess a powerful right arm.

"We have to be more physical up front and get more penetration to the quarterback," Cato-Bishop said. "I felt like against Clemson we were going sideways and that isn't the kind of defensive line we are. We are a penetrating defensive line.

"[Zero sacks] surprised us because we wanted to get to the quarterback, but we didn't do our job. It would have been OK if we didn't have any sacks if we won. We lost, so we didn't do our job up front."

The Clemson loss did sting the pride of the Wolfpack defense.

"It's like every other loss where you looked at the tape with a great eye, and you try to evaluate yourself to see what you could do better," Cato-Bishop said. "There was a lot of things that we didn't do well against Clemson. We have to do a way better job this week and learn from our mistakes."

Cato-Bishop and the Wolfpack will celebrate today at the Angus Barn in Raleigh for Thanksgiving. He knows what he's looking forward to eating.

"I'm looking forward to the macaroni and cheese," Cato-Bishop said. "That's what I'm looking forward too because I love macaroni and cheese. I'm not a big turkey guy, but I like macaroni and cheese and ham."
