FSU will travel to Pitt, host Syracuse in 2013

Full 2013 schedule analysis: Hosting Pitt, dropping VT & more

With a minor schedule shakeup in 2013, Florida State will become a part of the Atlantic Coast Conference's welcoming committee.

Florida State will take on both of the ACC's newest members next season, hosting Syracuse and traveling to Pittsburgh. The league announced opponents for the 2013 and its more symmetrical scheduling format in a release on Friday.

Syracuse is joining the Atlantic Division and will play FSU annually. Pittsburgh is a member of the Coastal Division and will rotate off of FSU's schedule following the 2013 season.

FSU will host Syracuse, N.C. State, Miami and Maryland in conference play while travelling to take on Pitt, Wake Forest, Boston College and Clemson. No game dates have been announced yet.

FSU will play Nevada, Idaho, Wofford (FCS) and Florida as its non conference games.

Since the league is expanding to 14 teams next season - seven in each division - the league installed a symmetrical eight-game format that allows each ACC team to host three division games and travel to three division games each season. Each team will also split its two cross-division games home and road.

Before the expected scheduling shakeup, FSU was set to host Virginia Tech on a return visit in 2013 after the 'Noles made a trip to Blacksburg, Va. this past season. However, since each team hosts one cross division team and travels to the other cross division foe in the new format - and the 'Noles are already hosting permanent cross-division rival Miami next year - that forced the league to give FSU a road game (Pitt). FSU is 3-5 all-time against the Panthers with the last meeting coming in 1983.

FSU and Miami will remain cross division rivals as expected.

With Lousiville and Notre Dame in the mix in coming years, there is no definitive plan for the cross-division rotation after 2013, although the release said the intention is to keep the schedule structure the same.
