Pettway the first 2014 commit
- - Auburn landed their first 2014 commitment on Sunday when Prattville (Ala.) running back Kamryn Pettway committed to the Tigers.
Pettway visited Auburn's Junior Day last weekend and visited again on Sunday. His last visit sealed the deal.
"After I came for another visit, I loved the experience. I like the coaches, I feel very comfortable and it's close to home. I grew up an Auburn fan. I can stay close to home and play in the SEC," said Pettway.
"It feels awesome to be the first commitment in the new class. I can help bring in more recruits."
Pettway was formerly committed to Florida State before decommitting last week.
Auburn offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee, running backs coach Tim Horton and receivers coach Dameyune Craig recruited the 6-foot, 220-pound Pettway to the Plains.
"Their offense, the coaches, the University, it's all good," said Pettway. "Coach Craig, Coach Lashlee and Coach Horton were all great. They told me they liked my size, I'll fit the offense and I can run the wildcat. I'm big, fast and physical and can also catch out of the backfield."
Pettway's favorite running back growing up was former Arkansas back Darren McFadden. Horton coached McFadden during his time in Fayetteville and expressed his desire to coach and mold Pettway in the same fashion.
Pettway is a true power back. He was a standout last season at Prattville High School and performed extremely well at the U.S. Army Combine in January. He rushed for over 1,300 yards and 14 touchdowns as a junior.
Pettway doesn't know about official visits next fall, that's still a ways off. But Pettway does believe this will be his last decision.
"I'm going to stay with Auburn," he said.
