No. 5 QB Jameis Winston Analysis
Hueytown HS
Hueytown, Ala.

Height: 6-4
Weight: 218
Year: RS-Freshman

Depth Chart Projection: No. 1 QB

2012 Stats: None.

Recent Update:
Bowden: Jameis Winston "reminds me of RG3"

The lack of a college snap under center hasn't quelled the excitement around the man who may be the most talked about freshman in FSU history. Winston, who fanned the flames of hype with a stellar performance in FSU's spring game (12-15, 205 yards, 2 TD), is expected to be handed the keys to the offense this fall. With a sound defensive unit returning, the unknown for FSU rests on offense, meaning the Seminoles will likely go as far as their new signal-caller will take them. Coaches and teammates have raved about Winston's smarts, leadership and athletic ability, and come Sept. 2, we'll see it in action.
Voting Rundown: Gene Williams - No. 3 / D.C. Reeves - No. 8 / Jeff Cameron - No. 5

No. 4 LB Telvin Smith Analysis
Lowndes HS
Valdosta, Ga.

Height: 6-3
Weight: 215
Year: Senior

Depth Chart Projection: No. 1 MLB

2012 Stats: 14 games, 64 tackles, 3 passes defended.

Recent Update:
How did the spring storylines shake out?

It doesn't seem right to call Smith a first-year starter in 2013 because of how much field time he's seen while splitting middle linebacker reps with the recently graduated Vince Williams the previous two seasons. But he'll be the unquestioned leader in the middle for FSU this time around. What he lacks in prototypical middle linebacker size he makes up for in freakish athleticism, seamless sideline-to-sideline speed and tenacity. Along with Smith, Christian Jones and Lamarcus Joyner should be the vocal core of the Seminoles' 2013 defense.
Voting Rundown: Gene Williams - No. 4 / D.C. Reeves - No. 5 / Jeff Cameron - No. 6

No. 3 DT Timmy Jernigan Analysis
Columbia HS
Lakey City, Fla.

Height: 6-2
Weight: 298
Year: Junior

Depth Chart Projection: No. 1 DT

2012 Stats:30 tackles, 6 TFL, 2.5 sacks

Recent Update:
What to watch for: FSU Spring Game

Jernigan showed up at FSU with big expectations, then wasted no time proving his worth as a freshman reserve in 2011. He continued the trend last year as a key part of The powerful, disruptive Jernigan hasn't been a full-time starter yet, but that's a formality for a deep defensive tackle unit that rotates constantly. He'll be the clear-cut No. 1 man in the middle this time around and is already being tapped as a potential first-round pick in the 2014 NFL draft.
Voting Rundown: Gene Williams - No. 6 / D.C. Reeves - No. 2 / Jeff Cameron - No. 4

No. 2 WR Rashad Greene Analysis
St. Thomas Aquinas HS
Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

Height: 6-0
Weight: 175
Year: Junior

Depth Chart Projection: No. 1 WR

2012 Stats: 57 catches, 742 yards, 6 TDs.

Recent Update:
What to watch for: FSU spring game

As injuries mounted in FSU's receiving corps in 2011, an undersized freshman Rashad Greene got his opportunity. Two years later, Greene took that chance and blossomed incredibly, emerging as an elite college receiver going into 2013. Greene's route running, sure hands and knack for tough catches in big spots (See: Oklahoma 2011; Orange Bowl 2013; Virginia Tech 2012) has set him apart as the team's top pass catcher. Expect Winston to seek out Greene early and often as the freshman QB gets accustomed to the college game.
Voting Rundown: Gene Williams - No. 5 / D.C. Reeves - No. 3 / Jeff Cameron - No. 2

No. 1 DB Lamarcus Joyner Analysis
St. Thomas Aquinas
Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

Height: 5-8
Weight: 195
Year: Senior

Depth Chart Projection: No. 1 CB

2012 Stats: 14 starts, 51 tackles, 1.5 TFL, 1 interception, 5 passes defended.

Recent Update:
FSU defense not showing its hand in spring game.

Lamarcus Joyner sits atop our Top 40 list this season as our consensus choice. On the field, he's the best pure football player FSU has. He's quick, he's tough, he has great instincts and he seeks out contact. Outside of something he can't control - his height - there are no weaknesses in his game. Off the field, he's an inspirational figure for his teammates and has been a stellar representative of the school and program. Joyner considered leaving for the NFL draft after last season, but opted to return for his senior year. With that decision, FSU has it's top player back in the fold.
