Four-star wide receiver flips to Florida State

Four-star wide receiver Javon Harrison was a longtime Virginia Tech commitment. He committed to the Hokies in the summer of 2012. But on Wednesday, to nobody's surprise, the Kathleen (Lakeland, Fla.) prospect flipped his commitment to Florida State.

Despite his commitment to the Hokies, the 'Noles have never stopped recruiting the four-star athlete. It also helps that he already has a connection to the Seminoles. Ladaris Haggins, one of the assistant coaches at Kathleen, is the cousin of FSU assistant coach Odell Haggins.

"I have a great relationship with Coach Haggins," Harrison told Warchant.com shortly after his official visit to FSU in January. "He's straight about everything. I've been looking forward to seeing FSU so this weekend worked out good."

During his official visit, Harrison met with head coach Jimbo Fisher and learned more how he would be used in the offense if he picked the 'Noles.

"He told me how much they want me as that physical receiver and how I would be used in the Florida State offense," Harrison told Warchant.com in January. "I've been impressed with the route-running from FSU and I really like how they spread the ball around and get the receivers involved in a lot of different ways. That caught my eye when seeing more about the offense."

The departure of Kelvin Benjamin and Kenny Shaw also opened the door for an early opportunity to see the field.

Harrison is the No. 42 ranked wide receiver in the country and No. 47 prospect in the state.
