'Noles land speedy wide receiver

With Sunday's commitments, Florida State's offensive recruiting class is pretty much complete. The big news of the day was the announcement from super quarterback Xavier Lee that he was going to be a Seminole. However, there was also good news from the west coast. Warchant.com confirmed Sunday that speedy wide receiver Kenny "Special-K" O'Neal had also given the FSU coaches a commitment.

The four-star receiver was a virtual unknown to Florida State a few weeks ago but he became a prime target after his film reached the Seminole coaching staff. He was quickly offered a scholarship but it looked like FSU had an uphill battle against the Georgia Bulldogs, the top school from his native state. However, after taking a closer look at the passing games of the two programs he opted for the Seminoles.

"A lot of people dont know this but I actually grew up an FSU fan," O'Neal told Rivals.com. "They have a great history and tradition and Im just excited to be a part of that. The visit was great and I felt more comfortable at FSU than any other school. I talked with Drew Weatherford a lot and really like him. Hes a cool dude and I think well be a nice one-two punch for years to come hopefully."

Also playing a role in his decision to pick the 'Noles over the Dawgs was a recent in-home visit from offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach Jeff Bowden.

"He was funny," O'Neal said. "My parents liked him a lot. It's always a good relationship when your parents like him."

O'Neal is rated by Rivals.com as the No. 20 wide receiver in the nation, and is one of the fastest prep athletes in the nation -- he has been timed running the 100-meter dash at 10.4 seconds. In his senior season at Skyline the four-star wideout racked up 850 yards on 36 catches for 20 TDs. That means he averaged 23.6 yards per catch and scored a touchdown more than half the time he touched the football.

O'Neal is on track to qualify with a 2.5 core GPA and a 940 score on the SAT.
